ABOUT US

Bethel Ensley Action Task (BEAT) was founded in 1991 by Reverend Ronald E. Nored and Clarence L. Brown to address the acute suffering they witnessed just outside the doors of their church. BEAT initially focused on the area immediately surrounding Bethel A.M.E. Church through the empowerment of local residents and the construction of high quality affordable homes.

BEAT's involvement in the community of Ensley has continued to grow over the past several years to include the development of 51 units of new affordable housing, a neighborhood park with a playground and basketball courts, and a new community center adjacent to Bethel A.M.E. Church. Now, BEAT has partnered with the City of Birmingham, local businesses, foundations, churches and thousands of individual volunteers to transform a six-block area of Downtown Ensley into a beautiful new neighborhood for local residents and newcomers.
